About Paramotoring
Para-pax is one of South Africa’s premier Tandem Motorised Paragliding companies – The bonus of Powered flight is the fact that we are much surer we can spend time in the air. It takes us 5 – 10mins to get ready to launch, and even less to pack up again afterwards. Powered paragliding (ppg) is the most incredible way to fly!
It’s a James-bond like, amazing way to paraglide. Foot launching from the ground, or by trike. Tandem flights on a PPG mean we can takeoff and fly nearly anytime and from a lot of great places. We launch from open fields and beaches around Cape Town and land softly, making this an exceptionally dynamic and versatile form of paragliding. When the wind is absolutely perfect (10 – 15km/hr), the pilot simply pulls up the glider (like a kite coming up gently above our heads) and we don’t even need to take a step. As the pilot gives the beautiful baby on a little juice, we just get lifted like a helicopter taking off!
Where free-flying is restricted by the wind and thermals, with PPG, we can “power” ourselves skywards! We often climb really high and then switch off the motor, experiencing what it’s like to feel the “free-flying, glider” sensation before landing. We even thermal on our motors. We can sometimes even re-start the motor in flight. Our latest paramotors have electric starts – easy!
“Low and slow” they call paramotoring. We literally fly so low over the beaches like Bloubergstrand that we can drag our feet through the sand – an amazing feeling! Having seagulls flying next to you and whale watching in falsebay is out of this world! Dolphins, seals and sharks are regularly seen by us in this phenomenal, cabin-free state-of the art aircraft. The 2 stroke engine’s thrust powers the propeller to help us gain speed, and then gain height. Typically 80 -210cc engines, but also 4 stroke and electric paramotors now also exist. We can cover huge distances the help of any wind and/or thermal activity. The world’s longest single ppg flight is over 1100km in length. Straight line distance….on 1 flight!
Once the bug has bitten, we offer you a training course. Simple, safe and quick. Within 2 weeks (full time) you can be licensed (35 flights under supervision). Expect to lay out R50 000 to R100 000 for a course and a full rig (Wing, motor and radio).
To fly a Paramotor is a dream. It’s the least expensive, easiest-to-learn powered aircraft that exists. It offers an incredible flying experience with optional aerobatics for the brave!
